Video Calls and Random Video Chat: Privacy and Setup
A video conversation can reveal your face, voice, room and other people nearby. Whether you are calling someone you know or considering a new connection, start with clear consent and an easy way to leave. This updated guide distinguishes a direct video call from random video matching; it does not imply that every matching feature is available in Spacechat.
Choose a direct conversation or a discovery service
A direct call starts with a person or conversation you choose. Random discovery introduces a person you have not selected and may have different rules and moderation. In Spacechat, use the call controls available in your current conversation. Check the current app rather than assuming a feature from an older article is still present.
Prepare your camera and microphone
Use an official download or website and review the permission prompts. Choose the intended camera and microphone, check the preview when available, and remove private documents or identifying details from the background. Tell other people nearby before putting them on camera. Headphones can reduce feedback and keep received audio more private.
Keep control of what you share
Locate mute, camera-off and end-call controls before starting. A virtual background is not a guarantee that your surroundings are hidden. Do not show account recovery phrases, identification documents, payment details or private messages. Another participant may capture the screen or record with another device.
Agree before changing the conversation
Ask before moving from text to voice or video. Declining a call is a valid choice. End an interaction if someone pressures you, ignores boundaries or asks for money or credentials. Review the service’s age requirements and reporting options; a profile image does not verify identity.
Troubleshoot a failed video call
Check device permissions, the selected camera, the network and whether another application is using the camera. Try an updated browser or the supported app. If video remains unreliable, use voice or text. When asking support for help, describe the device and error without attaching another person’s private content.
